I considered a normal sort of blog entry title– something with fewer caps. But fewer caps wouldn’t get across how incredibly excited I am to make this announcement.
I’ve been sitting on this news since October. OCTOBER. Do you know how hard it is for me to keep secrets? I am terrible at it. Please don’t make me your secret keeper. It will only result in heartache.
So. News. Here you go, in seven parts:
1) I HAVE A NEW BOOK COMING OUT.
(Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Ah.)
2) IT’S CALLED TSARINA.
(In the midst of the Russian Revolution, a young noble girl must find a powerful, mystical Faberge egg in order to save Russia– and the life of Alexei Romanov.)
3) IT COMES OUT WINTER 2014 WITH RAZORBILL
(Which is not very far away at all, and can we talk for a minute about how awesome the Razorbill team is? It’ll be a short conversation, because all I have to say is: They are VERY awesome.)
4) I’M WRITING IT UNDER A PEN NAME
(I am now moonlighting as J. Nelle Patrick. You can still call me “Jackson”. Or, if we’re dating and/or you’re Ryan Gosling, “baby”.)
5) RUSSIA
(It has been All Russia All The Time in my apartment for the past six months. If you are starting a trivia team and need someone who knows about Russia in the early 1900s, call me.)
6) THIS IS NOT THE DAMN HISTORICAL NOVEL
(A few years ago I wrote a book I lovingly referred to as the DAMN HISTORICAL NOVEL. This is not that book. This is a book I love and adore and cuddle, but I just want to clarify, since there have already been questions.)
7) TSARINA!
(I am just excited, so I wanted to type the title again.)

Hey Jackson,
that’s awesome news! I can’t wait to read it, the little blurb sounds awesome
One question: why the penname all of a sudden? o.O
I second this question!
VERY EXCITING NEWS! 1.) I <3 Russia, especially since my brother basically lives and studies there, so we have a ton of Russian stuff in our house, and someone nearby always speaks the language. In fact, just a few weeks ago, I went and ate at a local Russian restaurant with friends (I was the only one who didn't speak the language, so just sat there like D_D). I'd love to learn more about early 1900's Russia!
2.) The same question as Miss Bookiverse: "Why the penname all of a sudden?"
What does “Tsarina” mean?
Oh, and I love the sneaky link in the top right!
I love Russia! (See my email! SVR=Russia!) so excited for this book!!!!
So if you’re switching over to a pen name (follow-up: is this a permanent switch?), does that mean your website will also be migrating? If so, when can we expect that change to occur?
I’d like to know as well.
